Speaking at a campaign event, GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy addressed the question on many Pennsylvania voters’ minds: “Why should someone vote for Trump? What is the real reason why?” One PA voter highlighted the general uncertainty, saying, “Because a lot of people here are confused on that.”
Ramaswamy responded with a strong endorsement, framing Trump’s leadership as essential for restoring America’s national character and pride, elements he believes are crucial for the country’s success. “I think the real reason why,” he began, “is about reviving our national character, pride in who we are as a country, reviving conviction… it’s deeper than we talk about the economy.”
Though he acknowledged the traditional economic issues like growth, inflation, and wage concerns, Ramaswamy emphasized that Trump’s appeal goes beyond these issues, arguing that America needs a renewed sense of confidence.
“The easy answer is… you want to grow the economy. You want prices to stay down, wages to grow up. You want to seal the border from the largest mass infiltration of this country at the southern border we’ve seen in history, stay out of world war three, end the wars in the Middle East and in Ukraine, and to make sure that we’re focused on making America strong at home, that’s a reason to vote for Donald Trump.”
However, Ramaswamy insisted that the real reason to support Trump is about “reviving our self-confidence again.”
He pointed to what he called a “crisis of self-confidence in America,” suggesting that the country has lost faith in itself and its values. “We’ve lost confidence in ourselves as individuals and as a country,” he continued. “The beautiful thing, the true diversity of America, is that every one of you… have your own God-given gifts.”
Ramaswamy painted Trump as a leader who empowers individuals to reach their fullest potential. “This is the country that allows you to achieve the maximum of your God-given potential, whatever that is, and that you’re proud of it,” he said. He argued that Americans should not have to apologize for who they are, individually or as a country, adding, “That’s what Donald Trump is really about… reviving the conviction that, are we a perfect country? Of course not. We flog ourselves for that. But this is the greatest country known to the history of mankind that actually allows you to get ahead with your own hard work and commitment and dedication.”
For Ramaswamy, Trump’s message resonates on a personal level, especially as he considers the future for his own family. “If I think about my reason for voting [for] Donald Trump… the reason I’m voting for Donald Trump is I think about who is going to make my son more proud to be an American. Who is going to make my son actually grow up in a country greater than the one we knew?” Ramaswamy explained, describing his decision as rooted in a desire to see the country return to the values of individualism and freedom of expression.

After his rally stop, Ramaswamy was set to return to his home state of Ohio for Halloween festivities with his family before resuming his campaign.
As his message spreads, he continues to advocate for a conservative vision of America that values personal freedom, strong national pride, and individual potential—qualities he believes Trump is uniquely able to revive for the nation.
