While North Korea’s military is no stranger to assisting communist allies worldwide, having one of its high-ranking officers wounded in action underscores the increasing stakes of their involvement.

An intelligence report from the United States, shared with The Wall Street Journal, revealed that a senior North Korean general was injured "recently" in Kursk Oblast. The report did not disclose the officer's name, the extent of his injuries, or the exact timing of the attack.

However, details from Ukrainska Pravda suggest the injury may be linked to a strike on a Russian command post in Maryino, Kursk.

This command post, located on the grounds of the historic Bariatinsky estate, was reportedly targeted by Ukrainian forces using British-made Storm Shadow missiles. Drone footage released by Ukraine shows a series of explosions decimating structures within the area, close to the recognizable outline of the estate.

It navigates terrain using topographical data and GPS, flying at low altitudes to evade detection. Its dual-charge warhead is specifically engineered for bunker-busting, with the first charge penetrating a target's exterior and the second detonating deep within.

Ukrainian forces have effectively employed this weapon in other significant strikes, such as the attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Crimea.
