During an interview with detectives, Corey Burke allegedly admitted to killing her father, describing the act as a reaction to a mental health crisis.

She claimed she was overwhelmed by emotions, partly due to Election Day, which contributed to her sense of anxiety and distress. Corey reportedly told investigators that she “just freaked out” when her father argued with her about turning off the lights.

In addition to using the ice axe, Corey reportedly said she also attempted to strangle her father during the attack.

The charging documents detail a history of emotional struggles and strained relations between Corey and her father.

The deputy prosecutor noted that Corey had been working on setting emotional boundaries with her father and expressed that she was feeling “hyper-focused and disorganized” about their relationship.

This ongoing tension reportedly compounded her stress, leading to a mental health crisis at the time of the incident.

Corey Burke had purchased the property in June 2023, according to public tax records.

She had been living there with her father since that time. Investigators included in their report that Corey did not appear capable of caring for herself and was considered a potential danger to others and to property.

The detective’s report stated that Corey seemed “unfit” to manage her well-being independently, suggesting ongoing mental health challenges.

Following her evaluation at the hospital, Corey Burke was arrested and booked into King County Jail.

Her arraignment has been scheduled for November 21, where she will face the formal charge of first-degree murder.

Authorities have not disclosed further details on any previous incidents involving Corey Burke or her father.

Meanwhile, the case will proceed with the arraignment, where more information may be presented regarding Corey’s mental health history and any contributing factors in her relationship with her father.
