The Democratic Party seems unwilling to let go of Vice President Kamala Harris, even after her devastating loss to President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
A recent Puck News/Echelon Insights survey reveals that Harris remains the frontrunner for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination, despite her track record inspiring little confidence among Americans.

As reported by The New York Post, the poll shows that 41% of likely Democratic voters favor Harris for the top spot on the Democratic ticket in four years, far outpacing her competitors. Notably, none of her potential challengers broke into double digits, highlighting the party’s lack of viable alternatives.

California Governor Gavin Newsom came in second, with just 8% support, while Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro garnered a mere 7%.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate in 2024, barely managed 6%. For a party that touts itself as having the “future of leadership,” the numbers tell a different story.
The progressive left fared even worse. New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez received only 4% support, proving her brand of politics resonates more with Twitter activists than real voters.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, often hailed as a rising star, polled at an embarrassing 3%. The Democratic bench is looking more like a folding chair.

On the Republican side, Vice President-elect JD Vance emerged as the top choice for 2028. The poll shows that 37% of respondents would support Vance, signaling strong enthusiasm for a GOP that continues to prioritize leadership rooted in action and results.
While the Democratic Party seems poised to cling to Harris and her string of failures, the GOP is already preparing for the next chapter. Vance’s popularity reflects the party’s commitment to carrying forward the America First agenda.
For Democrats, it’s a troubling sign when their best hope for 2028 is someone voters just rejected on the national stage. Harris’s inability to connect with the American public—or lead her own ticket to victory—should be a wake-up call. Yet, with no clear alternative, the party appears content to gamble on a political brand already tarnished.
The 2028 campaign is a long way off, but this early polling paints a bleak picture for the left. While conservatives rally behind leaders like JD Vance, Democrats remain stuck in the past, propping up failed candidates instead of charting a fresh path forward.
