Hundreds of supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv, an Israeli soccer club, were targeted outside the stadium after a Europa League match against Dutch team AFC Ajax.

The Israeli Embassy in the United States confirmed the incident and shared footage of the attacks. In one video, a victim is seen cowering as an attacker yells “Free Palestine.”

The embassy commented, “The mob who targeted these innocent Israelis has proudly shared their violent acts on social media.”

In disturbing footage shared by the embassy, one man is repeatedly kicked to the ground by individuals, some of whom held Palestinian flags. Another video captured a car ramming into a victim, throwing him over the vehicle’s hood.

“Israeli soccer fans should be allowed to support their team without fear of physical danger,” the embassy added.

“The days of chasing Jews down European city streets should remain in the dark annals of history.”

Following the attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered two planes to be dispatched to Amsterdam to assist with the evacuation of Israeli citizens.

Netanyahu urged Dutch authorities to take “vigorous and swift action against the rioters and ensure the safety of our citizens.”

His office tweeted, “The harsh pictures of the assault on our citizens in Amsterdam will not be overlooked.”

In a call with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar requested assistance for Israelis traveling to the airport, adding that at least 10 Israeli citizens had been injured, according to reports from CNN.

The attacks have prompted statements of concern from officials in Israel and the United States. Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Nadav Shoshani described the incident as “horrific and barbaric,” tweeting that the violence in Amsterdam served as a “painful reminder” of history.

Shoshani confirmed that the IDF was “preparing to deploy a mission to rescue Israelis from Amsterdam.”

Antisemitism has surged globally following the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to a wider conflict in Gaza.

Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, the U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, condemned the attacks in Amsterdam, describing them as reminiscent of “a classic pogrom.”

Lipstadt expressed concern over the duration of the reported assaults, calling for a comprehensive investigation by the Dutch government.

Lipstadt also noted the historical significance of the timing, as the attacks occurred just days before the anniversary of the 1938 Reichspogromnacht when Nazi-led pogroms targeted Jews throughout the German Reich.

The violent incidents in Amsterdam have amplified calls for increased security for Jewish communities in Europe, particularly as tensions surrounding the ongoing Middle East conflict continue to rise.
