President-elect Donald Trump has named Matthew Whitaker, the former Acting Attorney General, as the new U.S. ambassador to NATO.
This announcement underscores Trump’s ongoing emphasis on strong leadership and America-first policies as his administration takes shape.

As reported by Fox News, Trump praised Whitaker’s qualifications, calling him “a strong warrior and loyal Patriot, who will ensure the United States’ interests are advanced and defended.” He added, “Matt will strengthen relationships with our NATO Allies and stand firm in the face of threats to Peace and Stability. He will put AMERICA FIRST.”

Trump’s statement further emphasized Whitaker’s credentials: “I have full confidence in Matt’s ability to represent the United States with Strength, Integrity, and unwavering Dedication. I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to promote PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, Freedom, and Prosperity around the World.”
Whitaker’s legal and professional background makes him a significant choice for this role. Before serving as Acting Attorney General from November 2018 to February 2019, Whitaker was U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa.
He holds degrees in law, business, and arts from the University of Iowa, where he also earned recognition as a Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient while playing football.

Whitaker’s appointment comes as NATO faces heightened tensions with Russia. Just a day prior, Russian President Vladimir Putin revised Russia’s nuclear doctrine, lowering the threshold for nuclear weapon use.
This aggressive move follows President Joe Biden’s controversial decision to permit Ukraine to strike Russian targets using American-supplied long-range missiles.
Moscow’s revised doctrine now allows for nuclear responses to conventional attacks on Russia by nations supported by nuclear powers, raising the stakes for NATO and the global community.
Adding to the tension, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine launched six U.S.-made ATACMS missiles into its Bryansk region. While most were intercepted, the strike reportedly targeted a Russian ammunition depot.
These developments come after Great Britain and France authorized Ukraine to use SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles, signaling deeper Western involvement in the conflict. Putin previously warned that such actions blur the lines between conventional warfare and full-scale war between NATO and Russia.

As Acting Attorney General, Whitaker was thrust into the national spotlight during Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian collusion during Trump’s 2016 campaign. A vocal critic of the probe, Whitaker succeeded Jeff Sessions, who resigned under pressure from Trump. Bill Barr eventually replaced Whitaker as Attorney General.
This appointment signals Trump’s continued reliance on trusted allies to shape his administration’s foreign policy. With Whitaker at NATO, Trump is doubling down on his commitment to an assertive America-first agenda on the global stage.

Whitaker is a solid dude. Trump should have picked him for AG before Sessions. Matt will be good in any position Trump chooses him for to Make America Great Again.
