Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris appears to be impacting her streaming numbers significantly.

Since publicly endorsing Harris on September 10, the night of the presidential debate, Swift has reportedly lost more than 2 million listeners on Spotify, according to data shared by Chartmetric, a music streaming analytics company, with The Wrap.

Before the endorsement, Swift had around 94 million unique listeners on Spotify who had streamed her music in the past month.

By September 27, that number dropped to 91.9 million. For Swift, this decline could represent a hit to her earnings, as Spotify compensates artists based on the number of streams they receive.

Swift’s decline in popularity isn’t limited to Spotify.

The number of viewers for her YouTube videos in the U.S. also dropped by nearly 10% following her endorsement of Harris.

Data from Chartmetric shows that Swift had 102.4 million views on her YouTube channel in the month leading up to her endorsement, but by September 27, that number had fallen to 92.5 million.

This drop in viewership further underscores the potential financial impact of her political endorsement.

Swift’s favorability among voters has also seen a dip. A recent NBC News poll revealed that her favorability among registered voters decreased from 40% in 2023 to 33% this year.

Additionally, 27% of voters now express negative feelings about the singer, a significant increase from the 16% who did so last year. Among independents, Swift’s positive ratings have dropped from 34% to 26%.

While Swift’s recent political endorsement may have contributed to this decline, her streaming numbers were already trending downward prior to her public support for Harris.

For example, Swift had 95.9 million Spotify listeners in the 28 days leading up to August 27.

Her endorsement has not reversed this trend, and the subsequent drop in listeners after September 10 further highlights the impact of her involvement in the 2024 election.

Swift officially endorsed Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in an Instagram post on September 10, shortly after the debate between Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump.

In her post, Swift expressed support for Harris, stating, “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” Swift’s post has garnered 11 million likes on Instagram, where she has 283 million followers.

The endorsement included a link to a voter registration site, which reportedly drove over 338,000 views to the page.

However, despite the significant engagement on Instagram, Swift’s endorsement appears to have contributed to a decline in her streaming dominance across platforms like Spotify and YouTube.

In response to Swift’s endorsement, Trump did not hold back, posting on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Trump even said Swift would pay a price in the marketplace. Watch:

His reaction followed media speculation about whether Swift would publicly support Harris in the 2024 election, a move that some outlets, like Vanity Fair, had eagerly anticipated.

Swift’s fans may not have been surprised by her political stance, as she had previously expressed regret for not opposing Trump in 2016.

In her 2020 “Miss Americana” documentary, Swift stated, “I need to be on the right side of history,” as she explained her decision to become more vocal about politics during the 2018 midterms.

With her 2024 endorsement of Harris, Swift has made it clear she will continue to use her platform to support candidates she believes in, even if it comes at the cost of her streaming success.
