A University of Kansas professor has been placed on administrative leave after a viral video surfaced showing him making controversial remarks during a lecture.

The clip, which began circulating on social media Wednesday, shows the professor suggesting that men who refuse to vote for a female presidential candidate should be “lined up and shot.”

The professor, whose identity has not been officially confirmed by the university, appears to be addressing a room full of students in the video.

In the clip, he argues that men who underestimate a woman’s ability to lead the country “don’t understand the way the world works.”

“It’s what frustrates me,” he says in the video. “There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don’t think females are smart enough to be president. We can line all those guys up and shoot them.”

Realizing the severity of his comment, the professor quickly adds, “Scratch that from the recording, I don’t want the dean hearing that I said that.”

The University of Kansas responded to the situation shortly after the video began gaining attention.

A university spokesperson confirmed to The National News Desk that the individual in the video is indeed a professor at the institution and that he has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation into the incident.

“We are aware of the video, which was recorded during a class earlier this semester,” the spokesperson said via email. “The instructor is being placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation. The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation.”

The video quickly spread across social media platforms, garnering millions of views. Public figures in Kansas, including Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), were quick to react to the professor’s remarks. “Disturbing video from a @UnivOfKansas professor,” Marshall wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Anyone saying men who don’t vote for Kamala Harris should be ‘lined up and shot’ is deranged and shouldn’t be around students nor academia. I trust that the @UnivOfKansas will take immediate action and fire this professor.”

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach also weighed in, mocking the professor’s statement.

He referenced the Kansas Board of Regents’ mission to educate leaders and make discoveries, contrasting it with the professor’s remarks. “KS Regents: We educate leaders, build communities, and make discoveries that change the world,” Kobach wrote on X. “KU prof: Some males in our society will refuse to vote for a female prez… We could line all those guys up and shoot them.”

As the university continues its investigation, the situation has sparked broader discussions about the appropriateness of statements made in academic settings and the balance between free speech and professional responsibility.
