Megyn Kelly took aim at CBS News on Thursday during her podcast, criticizing the network for its handling of Kamala Harris’ interview on “60 Minutes.”
The focus of Kelly’s criticism was on how CBS edited Harris’ response to a question about the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, comparing two different versions of the interview that aired on X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.
The controversy centers around Harris’ appearance on “60 Minutes” following criticism over her unclear stance on left-wing policies.

As part of her media engagements, the Harris campaign announced that she would be featured in the CBS interview.
On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly scrutinized the difference between the brief segment shared on X and the full interview that aired later on YouTube, pointing out how CBS edited Harris’ answer to present a more polished version.
“It turns out we should have been even more attentive to what 60 had done to that interview,” Kelly said during her podcast.
She went on to explain how the version released on X appeared to show a fumbling response from Harris, particularly when asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and whether he was listening to the Biden-Harris administration.
The full interview, which aired later, displayed a more coherent answer from Harris.
In the X clip, Harris’ response to CBS host Bill Whitaker was criticized by viewers for its lack of clarity. Harris had stated that the Biden administration’s work had “resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.” According to Kelly, this response was described by many online as a “word salad.”
However, when the full interview aired on YouTube, CBS presented a more refined response from Harris. In this version, Harris said, “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end,” a statement that appeared much more direct than the earlier clip.
Kelly was quick to highlight the disparity between the two versions, suggesting that CBS intentionally edited the interview to clean up Harris’ response.
“So by the time they aired the interview in full on Monday night, they had cleaned up the answer,” Kelly said.
She accused CBS of “whitewashing” the original response and removing the more confusing elements of Harris’ answer to make her appear more composed. “It was no longer a salad, it was just one green pepper that you could understand and eat easily,” Kelly added, using a metaphor to describe how CBS had streamlined the response.
In response to the controversy, Harris’ campaign distanced itself from the editing decisions, telling Variety, “We do not control CBS’s production decisions and refer questions to CBS.”
CBS has not issued a public statement addressing the specific claims made by Kelly and others about the editing of the interview.
The incident has raised concerns about media bias and transparency, especially in how major networks handle interviews with high-profile political figures.
As the 2024 election approaches, these kinds of controversies are likely to draw even more scrutiny from both sides of the political aisle.
