In a recent interview with The Late Show host Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night, Kamala Harris sidestepped questions about what “major changes” her administration would bring if she were elected president in 2024, compared to the Biden administration she currently serves.
Colbert, noting polls indicating that voters want change in the 2024 election, asked Harris to explain what differences the American public could expect under a Harris administration.
“You are a member of the present administration, but under a Harris administration, what would the major changes be, and what would stay the same?” Colbert inquired.

Harris initially avoided providing specifics, responding, “Sure, well, I’m obviously not Joe Biden.”
Colbert, known for his playful banter, quipped back, “I’ve noticed,” prompting laughter from the audience.
Harris then added, “So that would be one change in terms of – but also I think it’s important to say with 28 days to go, I’m not Donald Trump.” This remark was met with cheers from the largely liberal audience.
Harris continued, speaking in broad terms about her vision for the future. “When we think about the significance of what this next generation of leadership looks like, were I to be elected president, it is about – frankly, I love the American people, and I believe in our country. I love that it is our character and nature to be an ambitious people. You know, we have aspirations, we have dreams. We have incredible work ethic. And I just believe that we can create and build upon the success we’ve achieved in a way that we continue to grow opportunity and in that way, grow the strength of our nation,” she stated.
Harris used the opportunity to highlight her pitch for what she called an “opportunity economy,” while sharing a personal anecdote about her mother, a small business owner.

Profound.
The comments came hours after Harris said she would not have done anything differently than Biden.

The interview came as part of a broader media blitz Harris has undertaken in the final weeks before the 2024 election.
Earlier in the day, she appeared on The View where she faced a similar question about how her presidency would differ from the Biden administration.
Her response, however, did little to separate herself from the current administration’s policies.
“There is not a thing that comes to mind,” Harris said when asked if she would have done anything differently from President Biden over the last four years. “I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” she added.

Critics were quick to seize on Harris’s remarks, arguing that they tied her even more closely to Biden, whose administration has faced growing criticism from both sides of the political aisle.
The comments are expected to be used by the Trump campaign in their messaging, further linking Harris to Biden’s policies at a time when many voters are expressing a desire for change.
The Biden-Harris dynamic has been under increased scrutiny in recent months, with Biden being forced out as the Democratic nominee in July amid concerns from party leaders about his viability in the 2024 election.
After Biden dropped out, Harris swiftly replaced him as the party’s nominee, a move that set the stage for her current campaign.
As the election nears, Harris’s ability to differentiate herself from the current administration remains a critical challenge.

With key swing voters seeking clarity on what a Harris administration would look like, her reluctance to offer specific policy changes could become a focal point in the final stretch of the race.
