Former President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will not participate in a third debate against Kamala Harris, claiming that there is no need for another face-off after he performed well in the previous two debates.

President Donald J. Trump makes a campaign stop on Sept. 12, 2024, at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall in Tucson.

Trump’s statement came in a post on Truth Social, where he suggested that Harris’s calls for another debate indicate that she knows she lost the previous one.

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH,’” Trump wrote.

He added, “Polls clearly show that I won the debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a second debate.”

Trump criticized Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, blaming them for the nation’s current struggles, including crime, inflation, and what he called an unchecked influx of migrants. “She and Crooked Joe have destroyed our country, with millions of criminals and mentally deranged people pouring into the USA, totally unchecked and unvetted, and with inflation bankrupting our middle class,” he said.

The former president also pointed out that Harris had skipped other debates. “She was a no-show at the Fox debate and refused to do NBC & CBS,” Trump wrote, concluding, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

During the recent debate hosted by ABC News, Harris made several false claims, according to Trump and his supporters.

They also criticized the debate moderators, Linsey Davis and David Muir, for not holding Harris accountable while repeatedly fact-checking Trump.

Despite this, focus groups and polls, including a Reuters survey, showed that undecided voters leaned toward Trump by a margin of 2-to-1 following the debate.

A New York Times poll of undecided voters produced similar results.

Commentators such as Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and author Mike Cernovich suggested that Harris’s request for another debate was a sign that her campaign was struggling.

Kirk wrote, “You don’t get done with a debate and instantly request another unless you know you didn’t get what you needed.”

Cernovich added, “No need for Trump to do any more of these rigged debates. Harris showed how weak she is.”

Trump’s remarks to The New York Post further explained his decision not to debate again. “We’ve done two. You know, one against Biden, one against Comrade Kamala. I did well. I did really well,” Trump said. “The debate polls, every single poll, had us winning it.”

He also expressed frustration with how he was treated by the debate moderators, calling them a “disgrace to American journalism” and accusing them of giving Harris a pass on her falsehoods. “They didn’t challenge her on all of those things that they knew were false,” Trump said.

While Trump has declared his debate days are over, his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, is scheduled to debate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on October 1 in an event hosted by CBS News.

Trump offered some advice to Vance, saying, “just be yourself,” and predicted that the senator would be “fantastic” in the upcoming debate.
