Authorities in Canton, Ohio, have released disturbing footage of a woman who allegedly stomped on a cat’s head before consuming the animal in full view of shocked bystanders.

The incident occurred on August 16, and the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Allexis Ferrell, was found with “fur on her lips and blood on her hands,” according to police reports.

Ferrell was arrested after police responded to calls from horrified neighbors.

Bodycam footage shows officers confronting Ferrell as she squatted over the dead cat. The Canton Police Department’s report confirmed, “Officers were able to determine that Allexis had smashed the cat’s head with her foot and then began to eat the cat.”

The graphic video, recently made public, begins with officers arriving on the scene and finding Ferrell on top of the cat.

One officer asked for rubber gloves, noting that Ferrell was “covered in blood.” When questioned by police, Ferrell initially did not respond, but later, when asked why she killed the cat, she replied, “I don’t know.” She was then placed in a squad car and arrested.

The case comes amidst unverified claims from Springfield, Ohio, located about 170 miles from Canton, that Haitian migrants had been killing and eating pets.

These allegations were brought up during a city commission meeting in late July, where residents expressed frustration over the influx of around 15,000 Haitian immigrants since 2020.

Some claimed that the immigrants were responsible for strange behavior, including eating ducks and other pets.

However, police in Springfield have strongly denied these claims, stating there have been no credible reports of such activity.

During the first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump echoed the rumors from Springfield, saying, “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs… They’re eating the cats… They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

Despite being told by debate moderator David Muir that there were no credible reports to support these claims, Trump insisted he had “seen people on television” discussing it.

Springfield police have pushed back against the allegations. “In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured, or abused by individuals within the immigrant community,” a spokesperson said earlier this week.

In the case of Allexis Ferrell, Canton police emphasized that she is not connected to the rumors in Springfield. “The suspect in this case is not a Haitian immigrant,” Canton police spokesperson Dennis Garren said. “She is a lifelong Canton resident.” Ferrell is currently being held at the Stark County Jail on a charge of cruelty to companion animals, a fifth-degree felony. Her bond has been set at $100,000.

Ferrell has a history of criminal behavior, including previous charges of cocaine possession, receiving stolen property, and child endangerment.

She has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity and is scheduled for a competency hearing before Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank G. Forchione on October 15.
