In a revealing segment on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” New York City Councilman Kalman Yeger, a Democrat, expressed significant concerns about the ongoing illegal alien crisis affecting his city and other urban areas across the nation.

During the broadcast on Friday, Yeger provided a stark assessment of the impact that the influx of over 205,000 illegal aliens in the past two years has had on New York City, emphasizing the strain it has placed on local resources and services.

Councilman Yeger highlighted the unrealistic expectations that many illegal aliens have upon arriving in the city, expecting amenities comparable to upscale accommodations and other luxuries. “People believe that they can come here, they’re going to get a room at the Roosevelt Hotel, they’re going to get a phone, and they all seem to have motorcycles, and they seem to be doing just fine,” he stated.

The councilman initially addressed common misconceptions about illegal aliens, clarifying that while not all are involved in criminal activities, it is equally erroneous to claim that none are contributing to the city’s crime rates. “Well, anybody who says that every single person who comes over the border, lawfully or unlawfully, is here to commit crimes is simply wrong. But, at the same time, it’s naive and false to say that nobody who comes here is committing crimes,” Yeger explained.

He stressed the visible impact of the illegal alien influx on crime statistics, indicating that it’s not sustainable to overlook these consequences under current policies.

Providing a perspective on the scale of migration, Yeger compared the number of recent arrivals to the population of entire council districts. “The number of migrants who have come into New York City exceeds the number of residents of the council district that I represent and that Joe Borelli (R) represents. Each of our districts have about 170,000 people. So, we’ve already taken in more than an entire New York City Council district into our city in the last two years,” he remarked.

Yeger also touched on the financial burdens the city faces due to the high costs associated with accommodating such a large number of illegal aliens.

Just three months ago, the city adopted a $5 billion budget, with significant debates over funding essential services such as libraries, police, firefighters, and educators. “The services that are required by the migrants who are coming to New York City are immense. They’re costing us an enormous amount of money. We just simply do not have the resources to keep on footing this bill,” he asserted.

The councilman concluded by framing the situation as a broader national issue, not just a local one, urging for a comprehensive response. “This is a national problem. And just because a city like New York, a city like Chicago, a city like Dallas are the poster [children] and at the forefront of seeing the problem, this is an absolute national problem that is foisted upon cities like ours,” Yeger concluded.

He emphasized that while New York City does not control national border policies, it must deal with the consequences of federal decisions, focusing on the direct impacts on the city’s ability to manage its affairs effectively.
