A former Missouri math teacher has pleaded guilty to sexual contact with a student, with more severe allegations, including statutory rape and child molestation, being subsequently dropped as part of the plea agreement. Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, reached this agreement on Friday, as reported by KRCG.

The teacher faced arrest earlier this year after evidence of the inappropriate relationship came to light, including photographs showing scratches on the student’s back.

These images were presented to law enforcement by a classmate of the victim, propelling a full investigation into the matter by the police.

Clifton-Carmack, who now faces up to four years in prison, is on house arrest pending her sentencing, which is scheduled for October 11. The teen’s father, Mark Creighton, has also been implicated in the case for not reporting the relationship despite being aware of it.

He has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hillman stated that Creighton’s case is “on hold” until the teacher’s sentencing, as he has agreed to assist the prosecutors and testify if required.

The felony took place in Pulaski County, Missouri, though Clifton-Carmack was apprehended by the Garden Ridge Police Department some 800 miles away in Comal County, Texas, in early January.

The Laquey school resource officer initially alerted the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department to the situation.

According to court documents, the teacher and student engaged in sexual activities during school hours, sometimes enlisting other students as lookouts.

Moreover, the teacher, a recently divorced mother of two, had been married to Chance Carmack—an amateur mixed martial arts fighter and U.S. Army basic training graduate—before the incidents.

The relationship was brought to law enforcement after a student showed them photographs demonstrating physical marks on the boy’s back, which the student claimed were from Clifton-Carmack after they had sex in the classmate’s driveway.

Before her arrest, Clifton-Carmack had been questioned by detectives who seized her phone.

However, they could not immediately access potential incriminating evidence due to the necessity of a warrant.

The teacher initially denied any inappropriate relationship with students.

Once the warrant was obtained, texts related to her relationship with the 16-year-old boy were discovered.

The student who reported the affair expressed concerns over Clifton-Carmack’s behavior, describing her as being overly friendly with students.

She was also criticized for her attire, with complaints that she often wore tight or low-cut shirts and leggings to accentuate her body, which led to reprimands from school administrators for being “too close with students.”

After the revelations of the relationship and pending legal consequences, Clifton-Carmack left Missouri for Texas around December 23, 2023, and was detained on January 5, 2024, in Garden Ridge, Texas, before extradition to Missouri to face the charges.
