Ohio Senator JD Vance has taken a different approach in preparation for his upcoming vice-presidential debate against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Unlike his opponent, Vance confidently stated he doesn’t need extensive preparation. “We have well-developed views on public policy, so we don’t have to prepare that much,” Vance remarked in a press call Wednesday, as reported by The New York Post.

Walz, on the other hand, seems to be taking a more traditional route, opting for a “multiday debate camp” in rural Michigan this week. According to The New York Times, the Minnesota governor is putting in long hours to get ready for the CBS News-hosted debate set for October 1 in New York.

Meanwhile, Vance is steering clear of any pre-debate boot camps or crash courses. “We’re not planning to do anything similar,” he stated. Vance's focus is on highlighting former President Donald Trump's policies, contrasting them with what he sees as Vice President Kamala Harris' failures.

“What we’re going to focus on is that I make as concise and direct an appeal to the American people as possible about Donald Trump’s successful policies and Kamala Harris’ failed policies,” Vance explained.

He didn’t hold back when it came to criticizing Harris' record. “Kamala Harris’ record is one of unadorable groceries, unaffordable housing, and Americans who are losing their jobs,” Vance said, directly addressing the economic struggles many Americans face.

His message is clear: there’s no need for excessive preparation when you have a solid track record to back you up. “I don’t think we have to prepare that much because we don’t have to hide our record from the American people — we just have to talk about it,” Vance confidently added.

As for mock debates, both candidates are still engaging in practice sessions. Walz has enlisted Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to stand in for Vance, while Vance is sparring with Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer to prepare for Walz’s more laid-back, “folksy” approach.

Vance has mostly been preparing from his Cincinnati home, receiving guidance from his wife Usha and Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller.

The showdown between Vance and Walz is bound to be an interesting contrast, with Vance’s sharp and direct style going head-to-head against Walz’s more relaxed approach.
