Two separate incidents involving illegal aliens driving under the influence have reignited concerns about border security and immigration enforcement following accidents that resulted in injuries to law enforcement officers and firefighters in Indiana and Florida.

In Indiana, Cristino Alva, a 30-year-old illegal alien, was arrested after allegedly driving drunk and striking two Indianapolis firefighters on I-65 Southbound.

The firefighters were responding to a crash on the side of the highway when Alva, who was reportedly speeding, plowed into them.

The impact sent one firefighter airborne and pinned the other beneath Alva’s vehicle. While one firefighter sustained minor injuries, the other suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.

Alva, who had never held a driver’s license, was arrested the following day and charged with causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle impaired.

He is currently being held on an ICE detainer.

The incident has raised concerns about the increasing number of illegal alienss crossing into the United States under the Biden-Harris administration’s policies.

Critics have pointed to Kamala Harris, who was appointed as the administration’s “border czar,” for what they see as a failure to adequately address the border crisis.

Since 2021, more than 15 million illegal aliens, many of them military-age men, have reportedly crossed the border.

Additionally, Harris has been criticized for her stance on defunding ICE and pushing for the closure of migrant detention centers.

Meanwhile, in Florida, a similar situation unfolded when another illegal alien, 35-year-old Maciej Turek, crashed head-on into a deputy’s patrol car while driving drunk in the wrong direction.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office released video footage of the incident, which took place early Sunday morning near Palm Shores.

Deputy Anthony Nunez had activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop Turek, but the truck, traveling at a high rate of speed, slammed into the patrol car head-on.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey, in a statement posted on the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, said that Deputy Nunez’s injuries were mitigated thanks to his seatbelt and ballistic vest. Both Nunez and Turek were taken to the hospital following the crash.

Sheriff Ivey expressed frustration over the incident, noting that Turek is an illegal alien from Poland whose work visa expired long ago. “He shouldn’t even be here in our country,” Ivey said, highlighting that Turek had been driving recklessly and endangering other citizens before the crash.

Ivey also pointed out that Turek did not have a driver’s license and criticized current immigration policies that allow individuals to remain in the country illegally. “But, hey, why would he think he needs a driver’s license when he’s allowed to be in our country illegally even though that’s also against the law,” Ivey remarked.

Turek now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, driving under the influence with injury, and driving without a license. Like Alva in Indiana, Turek has been placed under a federal detainer.

Both incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding illegal immigration and its connection to public safety.

As critics call for stronger enforcement of immigration laws, these cases serve as stark reminders of the risks posed by illegal aliens who commit crimes, including driving under the influence, while residing unlawfully in the United States.
