Under the Biden-Harris administration, the United States has seen a disturbing trend in violence against law enforcement officers, with a police officer being shot approximately every 22 hours this year.

This alarming statistic comes from the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), which reports that over 260 officers have been shot in 2023 alone.

Joe Gamaldi, FOP National Vice President, spoke to Breitbart Texas about the ongoing assault on police officers, noting that over the past two years, more than 630 officers have been shot. “We saw 378 officers shot last year, that is a 60 percent increase since 2018,” Gamaldi said, highlighting the growing danger to law enforcement personnel.

This year’s figures continue to underscore the risks faced by police officers nationwide, with an officer shot every 22 hours.

The increase in violence is occurring in the context of what Gamaldi describes as a “revolving door criminal justice system,” where many of those responsible for violence against officers have prior criminal records, including significant numbers who are convicted felons.

The FOP vice president also pointed to the harmful rhetoric surrounding law enforcement, which he believes is exacerbated by certain politicians, media figures, and activists who profit from anti-police sentiments.

This environment has contributed to the portrayal of police as adversaries in the community, further endangering their work and lives.

Gamaldi expressed particular frustration with the Biden-Harris administration, criticizing its lack of vocal support or action to address this surge in violence. “To add insult to injury, we haven’t heard a peep from the Biden/Harris administration condemning this historic violence against law enforcement. The silence from the White House is deafening,” he remarked.

In contrast to the current administration’s silence, the National FOP, representing 378,000 police officers across the country, has endorsed Donald Trump for president, citing his stance as the “true law and order candidate.” This endorsement reflects the preference of the union’s members for leadership that actively supports and advocates for law enforcement’s challenges and needs.

FOP President Patrick Yoes emphasized the critical issues of public safety and border security in the upcoming election campaign, stating, “There was no doubt—zero doubt—as to who they want as our President for the next four years: Donald J. Trump.” Trump’s previous term was noted for strong leadership, particularly in challenging times, and the FOP intends to support his bid for a second term.

The ongoing violence has had deadly outcomes, with the Officer Down Memorial Page reporting that 37 officers have died from gunshot wounds in the line of duty this year alone.

Additional fatalities include deaths from assaults, stabbings, and vehicular assaults, totaling 97 officers lost in the line of duty so far this year.

This year’s figures and the FOP’s stance highlight a critical moment for law enforcement in America, as officers nationwide call for more robust support and decisive action from the nation’s leaders to ensure their safety and the security of the communities they serve.
