The suspect arrested for allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Sunday has a documented history of supporting Democratic political candidates and causes, according to reports.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, from Kaaawa, Hawaii, has been identified as the individual behind the assassination attempt, and his political donations and social media activity are now under scrutiny.

Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that Routh has made 19 donations to Democratic campaigns and organizations through ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s primary fundraising platform.

These donations, which began during the 2020 election cycle, amount to a total of $144.40.

The largest single contribution was $25 to Beto for America, a political action committee supporting Beto O’Rourke’s unsuccessful presidential bid. Other Democratic candidates who received donations from Routh include Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, and Tom Steyer.

Routh’s small but numerous contributions have shed light on his political leanings, which may provide some context for his motivations.

His financial support for Democratic candidates, coupled with his social media presence, has garnered attention from across the political spectrum as more details about his activities emerge.

Routh’s online behavior has also raised concerns. Social media accounts reportedly linked to him have been hidden by platforms following his arrest, but not before users archived several of his posts.

Some of these posts included disturbing political commentary, which Donald Trump Jr. highlighted on Sunday, tweeting, “Sounds like this psychopath spends a lot of time watching leftwing propaganda.”

Additionally, Routh was an outspoken supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Reports suggest that he traveled internationally to recruit volunteers for Ukraine’s military efforts, regardless of their nationality.

Further investigation revealed that Routh displayed a Biden-Harris bumper sticker on the back of a pickup truck parked at his home in Hawaii.

According to the New York Post, Routh frequently posted about his political views online, offering advice to Joe Biden during the 2024 re-election campaign.

In an April 22 post on X (formerly Twitter), Routh urged Biden to focus his campaign on keeping “America democratic and free.” In other posts, he made inflammatory comments about Trump, claiming the former president wanted to “make Americans slaves against master.”

As the investigation into Routh continues, authorities are working to piece together more information about his background and the motivations behind the attempted assassination.

Routh, who has described himself as unemployed, had been politically active online and expressed strong opposition to Trump in recent years.

The attack marks the latest in a series of threats against high-profile political figures, and it has sparked further debate about the influence of political rhetoric and extremism.

Investigators are expected to continue probing Routh’s political activities, donations, and online behavior as they work to uncover more details surrounding the attempted assassination of the former president.

For now, the case remains under investigation, with Routh’s motivations and potential connections to broader political movements drawing widespread attention.
