Dominique, a former employee of a power utility company, faces multiple charges related to the orchestration and participation in the assaults.

Gisele, determined to see justice served, waived her right to anonymity and requested that the trial be held publicly.

Her attorney, Stephane Babonneau, explained her decision, stating she wanted “complete publicity until the end.” Her other lawyer, Antoine Camus, added, “Holding a trial behind closed doors would have been what her attackers would have wanted.” He emphasized Gisele’s resolve, stating, “She is completely determined to face them and her husband with whom she lived for 50 years but whom she knew nothing about, as she discovered at 68.”

The trial is expected to be a grueling ordeal for Gisele, as it will force her to confront the horrific abuses she endured over ten years, only coming to light in 2020.

The case began to unravel when Dominique was caught filming up women’s skirts at a shopping center, leading to a police investigation that unearthed thousands of photos and videos of Gisele while unconscious. These images shockingly depicted the numerous assaults she suffered in the privacy of her own home.

Investigations also revealed chat logs on the website Dominique used to lure the perpetrators, where he confessed to administering powerful tranquilizers to his wife before the assaults.

Stringent protocols were followed to ensure Gisele remained unconscious during these attacks, including specific instructions for the assailants on personal hygiene and behavior to avoid leaving any traces.

The alleged rapists, whose ages range from 21 to 68 and include various professionals like a forklift driver, a firefighter, and a journalist, reportedly believed they were engaging with a libertine couple. However, Dominique disclosed to police that these men were fully aware of his wife’s drugged state.

Amidst this complex and heart-wrenching legal battle, Dominique’s attorney, Beatrice Zavarro, conveyed his remorse, stating, “He is ashamed of what he did, it is unforgivable.” She highlighted his acknowledgment of the crimes, adding, “My client’s line of conduct is that he recognizes what he did, and there has not been an ounce of protest since the beginning.”

Furthermore, Dominique faces charges for a separate 1991 rape and murder, which he denies, and a 1999 attempted rape, to which he has confessed.

The trial continues through December, holding the community, nation, and indeed the world’s attention as it unfolds.
