Deputies in Jurupa Valley had to make a split-second decision on Saturday, June 8, when faced with a man who not only stabbed himself but then charged at them with a knife.

The incident unfolded just after 11:10 a.m. when law enforcement received a call about a person on 53rd Street and Cedar Street who seemed disoriented and was bleeding, as confirmed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (RSO).

Upon arrival, deputies quickly realized that the man needed immediate medical attention.

However, the situation escalated when, out of nowhere, the individual pulled out a knife and started inflicting self-inflicted wounds.

Instead of stopping there, he proceeded to charge toward one of the deputies, leaving them with no choice but to resort to a deputy-involved shooting.

The man was promptly transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

There were no other reported injuries resulting from the incident.
