The incident took place in a residential part of the city, with many homes in the area.

The aircraft in question, an ATR72-500, was originally built in Europe over a decade ago, as documented by Flightradar24. The airplane left Cascavel at approximately 11:56 in Sao Paulo’s local time, and its last signal was transmitted roughly an hour and a half later.

The circumstances that led to the crash have not been divulged yet. “We don’t know if there was any kind of mid-air collision, whether there was an engine failure. We just don’t have enough facts,” shared CNN aviation analyst Peter Goetz. The aviation authorities continue to investigate the matter with further details to be released as they become known.
