Magic Johnson, the NBA legend known for his impressive career on the court, has sparked controversy yet again with his recent comments on social media.

Johnson, who has faced criticism before, is now under fire for his praise of Vice President Kamala Harris following her first media interview since being nominated by the Democratic Partyas reported by Fox News.

Johnson, who previously drew backlash for lauding speeches by former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as “the best political speeches in the history of our country” during the Democratic National Convention, took to X to express his admiration for Harris’s interview. “Vice President Kamala Harris was outstanding in her CNN interview tonight! She has a real vision for the country,” Johnson posted.

However, many on social media did not share Johnson’s enthusiasm.

Harris, who was interviewed alongside Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, received criticism for what some saw as vague and non-committal responses, particularly regarding her “day one” agenda.

One user responded to Johnson’s post, asking, “What’s the vision? Be specific.”

Another bluntly stated, “You can’t be serious.”

Critics pointed out that Harris’s performance in the interview did little to convince them of her capabilities, especially given her track record over the past few years. “She’s failed for 3.5 years… What makes you believe this vision, which is the same failed policy of this administration she’s a part of, would bring this country to a better place?” one user questioned.

Another added, “Watched it twice and she gave ZERO vision.”

Despite the widespread skepticism, Johnson doubled down on his support for Harris in a follow-up post. “VP Harris was strong and clear about her positions on the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and other issues. She clearly explained why she changed viewpoints on a couple of issues, which shows her humility, growth, and willingness to be open,” he wrote.

The reaction to his second post was much the same, with users continuing to challenge his views.

“Say you didn’t watch the interview without saying you didn’t watch the interview…,” one response read, encapsulating the ongoing criticism that Johnson’s praise was out of touch with the reality perceived by many.

This isn’t the first time Magic Johnson’s public comments have caused a stir, and it’s unlikely to be the last, given his history of provocative statements. Whether his latest remarks will resonate with the broader public or continue to fuel backlash and division remains to be seen.
