A Tarrant County Sheriff's Deputy was shot three times and hospitalized on Wednesday as police confronted an armed suspect in Fort Worth.

Jennifer Gabbert, chief of staff for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, reported that officers were serving felony warrants when the shooting occurred. “The suspect shot one of our officers, shot that officer three times,” Gabbert said.

Deputy Todd Tipton, 40, was listed in stable condition at John Peter Smith Hospital.

The suspected shooter, who was wanted on felony charges including sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child, and unlawful restraint of a minor, died at the scene.

Fort Worth police described the situation as an active scene with ongoing engagement with the armed individual.

A shelter-in-place order was issued around 1 p.m. for residents between Chesser Boyer Road and 28th Street near Haltom City.

The deputy was serving a warrant in the 2900 block of Elinor Street when he was shot, according to Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare. O'Hare confirmed on X that the deputy’s injuries were not life-threatening.
