San Francisco police have released videos depicting the sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Alexander Antonio Lopez last week.

The footage shows Lopez firing at officers while attempting to flee from them before he was shot.

The videos, including surveillance footage and officer-worn camera footage, were made public as part of the mandated town hall following police-involved shootings.

The footage revealed Lopez twisting around and aiming a gun at Officer Paul Balza, who had responded to a call regarding a stolen scooter on July 21.

As Officer Balza shot at Lopez three times, the third bullet struck Lopez’s torso, causing him to collapse onto the street.

The gun landed about 10 feet from Lopez, who was still alive and moving.

Subsequently, Balza, along with his partner and other officers, positioned themselves behind a nearby car and instructed Lopez to refrain from reaching for the gun, cautioning him that any such attempt would result in further action.

Despite the police instructions, a witness stated that Lopez’s girlfriend, who was present at the scene, called for medical assistance as police approached him.

After being detained, Lopez received medical attention and was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The series of events began with a 911 call reporting the theft of a scooter at the United Nations Plaza, allegedly by an individual armed with a firearm.

Approximately thirty minutes later, police officers spotted a man matching the description of the suspect – a 20-40-year-old white man, around 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a blue and white sweater and dark bottoms – and attempted to apprehend him. However, Lopez attempted to evade capture, prompting the pursuit by Officer Balza.
