While on routine patrol, on June 28Patrolman Rammel of the Georgetown Police Department encountered Mary McElroy walking northbound on US 68 near Hamer Road. McElroy, who had an active warrant, displayed signs of potential aggression when informed of the warrant by Patrolman Rammel. Backup was requested from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Hardy arrived at the scene and, along with Patrolman Rammel, managed to restrain McElroy after a struggle. Patrolman Rammel sustained injuries and was spit on by McElroy during the altercation, requiring medical treatment.

McElroy was subsequently arrested and booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, obstruction, and assault of a police officer.
Patrolman Rammel was treated and released after the incident.
