Cedar Hill, TX - Cedar Hill police have recently released dashcam footage capturing a dramatic pursuit that culminated in a shootout, leaving a wanted man critically wounded.

According to Chief of Police Ely Reyes, the incident unfolded on Wednesday night when plainclothes officers from the department's Criminal Investigation Division were on the lookout for a man wanted for two felonies. The pursuit began when the individual was spotted at around 8:10 p.m. along the 300 block of North Joe Wilson Road.

 

As per Chief Reyes, the officers attempted to apprehend the man, but he managed to flee in his vehicle. Subsequently, both plainclothes and marked police cars engaged in a pursuit through Duncanville and into Dallas, where the man exited U.S. Highway 67 at Wheatland Road. It was at this point that the man allegedly discharged at least one round in the direction of the officers.

In the released dashboard camera footage, one officer can be observed returning fire through his windshield. The intense chase concluded with the man exiting his vehicle and purportedly continuing to fire at the officers. In response, officers from Cedar Hill and Duncanville returned fire, resulting in the man being struck at least once. Prompt first aid was administered by the police, and the man was promptly transported to a hospital. As of Friday, the man remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition.

 

It is reported that no police officers sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.

 

Chief Reyes also highlighted that the wanted individual had an extensive criminal record, including charges related to burglary, armed robbery, and felony possession of a firearm. In addition to these charges, the individual is facing further allegations of felony evading with a motor vehicle.
