After making racist comments about Black and Muslim people during a social media livestream, former interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia has been expelled from the WBC.

You can hear a sample of one of Garcia's controversial comments in the video below.

Garcia attempted to apologize, stating on X: "I was trolling. I want all the killing to stop. I love everyone, sorry if I offended you." That message, however, was later deleted by Garcia.

Garcia's comments swiftly led to outrage on social media and discussions about Garcia's mental well being. The former champ was arrested just weeks ago in Beverly Hills for allegedly destroying property, causing $15,000 in damages.

Here's What They're Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Garcia was also suspended by the New York State Athletic Commission last month for testing positive with ostarine in his system, a performance enhancing drug. Garcia has referenced his struggles with mental health in the past, even withdrawing from fights so he could focus on improving his condition.

As a result of the exchange WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced the expulsion on Thursday, expressing concern for Garcia's well-being.

Garcia's family released a statement following the expulsion announcement which read as follows:

"Our family unequivocally does not support any statements Ryan has made regarding race or religion—these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised. Those who know Ryan can attest to this fact. Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years, and as a family, we are committed to ensuring and encouraging that he receives the necessary help to navigate this very challenging time and address both his immediate and long-term well-being."
