Two people were injured, and a third person was killed in a shootout after authorities say a man asleep inside of his vehicle was attacked Saturday in unincorporated Paulding County.
The fatal shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Crossroads Church Road in Rockmart.

The deceased man was identified as 35-year-old Brandon Michael Stephens, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said.
Stephens was identified as one of two men who authorities said attacked a 38-year-old man who was asleep in his car in his driveway. The other suspect was identified as Troy Douglas Sparks, 34, authorities said.

The sheriff's office said Sparks and Stephens had past issues with the man who was attacked. While the man was asleep, authorities said Sparks and Stephens broke out his car window and started assaulting him with a blunt object.
Then, authorities said the man exchanged gunfire with Stephens, during which Stephens was killed, and Sparks and the man were injured in the shooting.
It was deemed by the sheriff's office that the man acted in self-defense, authorities said.
Sparks was arrested and charged on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault and is being held for a warrant out of Cobb County, authorities said. Paulding County Jail records show Sparks is being held without bond.

How many people sleep in their vehicle, in their driveway instead of going inside their home? I for one, have NEVER done that one.
That’s none of your business nor the scumbag criminals who entered his property. You answered your own question with “in their vehicle, in their driveway”.
It’s obvious he was expecting them and fell asleep.
he was expecting them as he sleep? He sounds really aggressive.
does it matter, you should always be safe on YOUR property.
they all got what they paid for.
I’ve done it a few times after getting home from the bars too drunk to get out of the car.
Slept good, too.
As a recovered alcoholic I can tell you I have fallen asleep in my driveway in my car hundreds of times. As someone recovered and needing to drive a thousand miles with short breaks I have also fallen asleep in my car in my driveway with all energy spent. Good for you that it hasn’t happened to you. May God continue to bless you
Maybe his bed was full of scabies?
The article said he had prior issues with the 2 men who attacked him. He was waiting for them to attack his him. He was protecting his car and home. If it was you, you would probably have been attacked and done in inside you own home since you’re such a sissy.
It seems he saw this coming and wanted to keep it out of his house. Good move.
Bait?
Looks like this occured in Georgia, not Ohio.
