Former President Donald J. Trump announced on Friday that he will be returning to Butler, Pennsylvania, to hold a rally in honor of those who were killed or injured at his rally in the same town on July 13th. During the shooting, Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on the crowd, hitting Trump in the ear, injuring two others, and killing former fire chief Corey Comperatore, who heroically shielded his family from the gunfire.
“I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally, honoring the soul of our beloved firefighting hero, Corey, and those brave patriots injured two weeks ago. What a day it will be — Fight, fight, fight! Stay tuned for details,” Trump wrote. Crooks began shooting mere minutes after Trump took the stage.

Following the incident and the attempt on Trump’s life, the US Secret Service had urged the Trump campaign to cease holding outdoor rallies, where many of Trump’s previous successful rallies were held. Campaign officials commented at the time, “Obviously, with an indoor venue, you have a capacity. It doesn’t pack the same punch. There’s something about being at one of those outdoor rallies.”

Speaking at the rally, Trump addressed those who call him a “threat to democracy,” stating, “Last week I took a bullet for democracy.” Trump spoke to a raucous crowd at the Van Andel Arena located in Grand Rapids.
“They keep saying ‘He’s a threat to Democracy’… What the Hell did I do to Democracy?”
