North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has officially withdrawn from the running to be Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate for the upcoming election.
Cooper made the announcement in a statement on X after The New York Times reported his decision on Monday evening.
Over the past days, Cooper had been considered a top contender among potential running mates for Harris.
Following Joe Biden’s exit from the race, Harris’s team sent vetting materials to Cooper and several others, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona.
