A deputy assigned to East Los Angeles Station discovered a stolen vehicle on Atlantic Boulevard in the city of Commerce last Friday. The driver and a rear passenger fled while another individual remained in the car and was taken into custody without incident.

A subsequent search for the two fleeing suspects resulted in the 16-year-old driver being taken into custody on a nearby roof. The second suspect, a 14-year-old from the city of Lancaster, remained at large.

As deputies waited for a tow truck to arrive, residents alerted them to the 14-year-old's presence, running north on Cowlin Avenue. Upon approach, the juvenile produced a handgun, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.
