The president of the National Education Association (NEA) gave a bizarre speech that made some think of a skit from the TV show “The Office.” As the NEA’s Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly (RA) is being held in Philadelphia, NEA President Becky Pringle delivered a speech that could have been straight out of an episode of The Office.

Delegates at the meeting were forced to listen to Pringle banging on the podium, flailing her hands in the air, and screaming about winning “all the things.”

Pringle demanded transformative social justice change in the education system in the pursuit of equity, which bordered on racial politics. “We worked hard to rid ourselves of a tyrannical, deceitful, and corrupt White House, but the reality is that the seeds that were sown during that horrible season continue to germinate,” Pringle claimed. Echoing the recent push for critical race theory, her rantings signaled not only her own failing grip on reality but also the potential extremism taking hold of the establishment.

Corey DeAngelis, a school choice advocate, said her speech was “off-the-wall,” stating, “These power-hungry control freaks think they own your kids. They’re in a cult that worships government and detests parents. It’s time to defund teachers unions and allow the money to follow the child. Becky Pringle pulled a Dwight Schrute. She is off-the-rails and desperate to maintain control over the minds of other people’s children.” Pringle is leading the charge for social justice in education and claims that this is the only way forward despite the fact that it has been proven to decrease learning outcomes.

The fictional character Schrute refers to the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. The display by Pringle was thought to be unsettlingly similar to the speech made by Schrute in the show.
