New York Attorney General Letitia James has made public the police body-worn camera footage related to an incident that resulted in the death of Taiquell Woodson on February 17, 2024.

The encounter, involving members of the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) in Bay Shore, Suffolk County, has been under investigation by James’ office.

According to reports, SCPD officers were responding to a disturbance at a residence on Udall Road in Bay Shore when they encountered Mr. Woodson.

As the officers approached, Woodson greeted them by brandishing a knife and baton, slashing one of the officers with the knife.

An attempt was made by a second officer to subdue Woodson with a taser, but he was ultimately shot by a third officer.

Woodson did not survive and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

To enhance transparency and foster public trust, the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) within the Attorney General’s office has released the body-worn camera footage captured by the SCPD officers involved in the incident.

The only reason we did not lose this officer is due to his protective vest and training.
