House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the recent act of political violence and called for a national response to address security lapses and maintain a free society.

Johnson emphasized the need for leaders from all parties to tone down rhetoric and prevent further violence through collective effort.

"America awakens to a rather surreal morning. This is a horrific act of political violence. It ought to be roundly condemned," Johnson stated. "Obviously, we can't go on like this as a society. Our prayers are with President Trump, all the rally attendees, certainly the family of the individual that lost their life and those who were injured."

Johnson highlighted the importance of addressing security concerns, noting his conversations with law enforcement and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
