The FBI has named Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the assailant in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred on Saturday at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Crooks allegedly fired from a rooftop perch approximately 130 yards away, injuring Trump and causing chaos among the attendees.

During the attack, a bullet struck the upper part of Trump’s right ear while he was addressing the rallygoers. Tragically, one attendee was killed, and two others were injured. The FBI confirmed that Crooks was shot dead at the scene. The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, who graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022, resided in Bethel Park, a Pittsburgh suburb located about an hour south of Butler. Records show that Crooks made a $15 donation to the Progressive Turnout Project, a Chicago-based political action committee that supports Democratic candidates and advocates for key Democratic constituencies, including young people, minorities, and low-income individuals.
