The initial request for Cheatle’s “voluntary” attendance on July 13 hit a snag, with lawmakers on the Oversight Committee accusing the Homeland Security Department of impeding the Secret Service’s cooperation with the investigation into the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Initially, the Secret Service committed to your attendance. Subsequently, however, DHS officials appear to have intervened, and your attendance is now in question. In addition, since DHS’s intervention, there have been no meaningful updates or information shared with the Committee.” – James Comer

Despite the scheduled [8] virtual briefing from the Secret Service on Tuesday, numerous GOP lawmakers are calling for Cheatle’s resignation, even threatening to defund her salary and launch independent investigations of the shooting.
Public congressional hearings [9] are also on the horizon, although Cheatle remains firm in refusing to step down.
From a rooftop outside the event, Crooks unleashed a barrage of shots at Trump before a Secret Service countersniper took him down, leading many to brand the incident as a colossal security failure that left the former president vulnerable.
