Police: 2 Dead, At Least 19 Injured When Block Party Turns Deadly In Detroit [VIDEOS]

A mass shooting shook the east side of Detroit early Sunday morning. At least 19 people were wounded, and two lives were lost, as reported by the Michigan State Police.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Rossini near Gratiot in Detroit’s notorious Red Zone, an area long plagued by deadly violence. It transpired during a block party where hundreds of revelers had gathered, as recounted by 21-year-old eyewitness Michael Pope. “Once I heard shooting, I just took off running,” he said, describing the chaotic and panic-stricken scene.

The victims were rushed to St. John Hospital in Detroit for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities from the Michigan State Police, collaborating with the Detroit Police Department, are feverishly working to piece together the details surrounding this heinous act.

Despite the substantial police presence at the scene and an impassioned plea from Democratic U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib for urgent action, the culprits remain at large. “The problem is the normalcy of these shootings,” remarked Detroit Police Commissioner Ricardo Moore, a reminder of the pervasive violence that plagues the city.

This latest incident adds to an unsettling pattern of violence in the area, with previous shootings at similarly large gatherings in Detroit. “Crazy world. Crazy city,” lamented Pope, reflecting on the aftermath of the incident.
