A former gymnast and British school teacher, Rebecca Joynes, found herself in tears as she was handed a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence on Thursday. The 30-year-old had engaged in sexual relationships with two male teenage students, one of whom she became pregnant.
The story comes with details of Joynes buying one victim a Gucci belt before taking his virginity.
During the trial in Manchester, England, Judge Kate Cornell didn’t hold back in her scathing condemnation. “There is a breathtaking arrogance in your conduct. You were the adult,” she said. “You were the person in control, the person who should have known better and entrusted by the school and the boys and by their parents of caring for their sons.”
Joynes joined Manchester High School as a math teacher in 2018. The court heard how she had groomed her victims, referred to as Boy A and Boy B, from the age of 15. The abuse continued until they were 15 and 16, respectively.
Boy B, who fathered Joynes’ child, testified about being coerced, controlled, manipulated, and sexually abused. In his victim impact statement, he revealed that the abuse had torn his family apart. It was a significant struggle for him to testify against the woman who gave birth to his child.
Boy A disclosed that Joynes had sent him flirty messages on Snapchat and had gifted him an expensive designer belt worth $450 before taking his virginity.
Joynes’ misconduct was exposed when Boy A’s mother discovered the abuse. She promptly alerted the authorities, leading to Joynes’ dismissal from her job.

However, the disgraced former teacher shamelessly embarked on a new relationship with Boy B while out on bail. She even lied to him about being infertile. The day before her second arrest, Joynes informed Boy B about her pregnancy during a planned “date night.” The boy’s reaction was one of shock and disbelief.
“I was like, ‘What the f–k!'” he revealed to the police.
Joynes gave birth to their child this year, but the infant was taken away from her the following day. In court, Joynes shed tears, claiming that she had ruined her “dream job” and denied any wrongdoing. She outright rejected accusations of any sexual activity with Boy A and insisted that her relationship with Boy B only started after he left school and she had been fired.
Eventually, Joynes was found guilty on six counts of sexual activity with a child. The consequences of her predatory actions will indefinitely haunt Boy B, who declared, “Ultimately, I will forever be Rebecca’s victim and forever linked to her through our child.”
