Former President Barack Obama was reportedly aware of and unfazed by actor George Clooney’s recent call for Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race, according to sources cited by Politico. Clooney had informed Obama in advance about his intention to publish an op-ed in the New York Times, expressing his doubts about Biden’s chances of winning based on his lackluster debate performance.

While Obama did not discourage Clooney from making these remarks, sources stated that he also did not actively support or object to them. The Hollywood star, who had co-hosted a Biden fundraiser in Los Angeles that generated substantial funds just weeks before, candidly stated in his op-ed that the current Democratic incumbent “cannot win” after his disappointing debate appearance.

In the op-ed, Clooney reflected on Biden’s performance, saying, “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.” Clooney and Obama, known to be friends, had both attended the fundraiser.

When asked about Obama’s alleged lack of response to Clooney’s remarks, Obama’s team declined to comment. This development follows former Obama adviser Jon Favreau, who agreed with Clooney’s concerns about Biden’s debate performance, stating that it was not surprising to those who attended the fundraiser. Favreau shared that there was consensus among attendees that Biden’s performance fell short.

Clooney’s op-ed garnered attention not only for its celebrity critique but for the actors’ bold assertion that Democrats from senators to Congress members and governors privately hold similar reservations about Biden’s chances in the election. Clooney emphasized the need to face the truth rather than hoping for a last-minute turnaround, stating, “The dam has broken. We can put our heads in the sand and pray for a miracle in November, or we can speak the truth.”

While only eight House Democrats have publicly called for Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race, others, including Obama, have publicly remained steadfast in their support or opted to wait and observe.

This morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough insinuated that Barack Obama could have possibly put Clooney up to it. Watch:
