According to a report, Joe Biden may be facing intense pressure from Democrats in Congress to drop out of the 2024 race.

At least 25 House Democrats may soon demand the 81-year-old Biden to end his re-election bid following his weak performance in last week’s debate against former President Donald Trump, reports Reuters, citing a House Democratic aide.

Centrist House Democrats, who are in tough re-election battles this November and are at risk of losing their seats, were alarmed by Biden’s faltering appearance in the debate and may consider calling on the president to drop out.

During the Fourth of July week recess, these lawmakers were bombarded by voters with questions about Biden’s poor debate showing - with one House Democratic aide revealing that it seems "the dam has broken."

Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) became the first House Democrat to call on Biden to step aside over his shaky debate, during which he repeatedly froze up on stage and lost his train of thought. Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) expressed that he had no faith in Biden’s ability to beat Trump in November. Meanwhile, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) said, "The truth, I think, is that Biden is going to lose to Trump… the damage has been done by that debate." However, even though she stopped short of asking Biden to drop out, the handwriting is apparently on the wall.

Biden is expected to convene with Democratic state governors to discuss his 2024 strategy and debate performance with Trump. The White House also confirmed that meetings between Biden and congressional leaders were in the works. It remains to be seen what effect this could all have on Biden's future plans.
