A massive brawl broke out at the conclusion of a Copa América semifinal on Wednesday night, involving Uruguay players and Colombian fans following Colombia's 1-0 victory to advance to the final.

 

Videos show Uruguay players, notably Darwin Núñez, engaging in physical altercations with Colombia fans in the stands at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Security intervened, but the situation quickly escalated with punches being thrown from both sides.

Uruguay defender José María Giménez was also seen participating in the altercation. Colombian supporters retaliated, throwing punches and objects towards the players during the incident.

Giménez stated that the players' families were in danger, prompting their actions to protect them. Uruguay Football Association President Ignacio Alonso supported this claim, emphasizing the players' natural instinct to defend their loved ones.

The governing body of Copa América, CONMEBOL, condemned the violence and reaffirmed the values of unity and respect in football.

"Our work is based on the conviction that soccer connects and unites us through its positive values. There is no place for intolerance and violence on and off the field" - CONMEBOL

The match was already tense as Daniel Muñoz received two yellow cards, leading to his expulsion from the game. Additionally, a scuffle ensued between players and staff from both teams after the match, with pushing and shoving confrontations occurring on the field.
