Newhart’s publicist, Jerry Digney, confirmed that the actor died in Los Angeles after battling a series of short illnesses. With a deadpan style that became his signature, Newhart captured the hearts of audiences across the nation.
The journey to fame began for Newhart as a standup comic in the late 1950s. His breakthrough came in 1960 with the release of his comedy album, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” which earned him a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
However, it was Newhart’s television work that solidified his place as a true comedic genius. He graced the small screen in two iconic shows during the 1970s and 1980s, namely “The Bob Newhart Show” and “Newhart.” These shows showcased his impeccable timing and wit, earning him accolades and a dedicated fan base.
