For Ole Miss football one name carries more weight than any others, Archie Manning. The standout quarterback was a Heisman finalist in both 1969 and 1970, finishing 4th and third in voting respectively. He later gave the world his talented, Super Bowl winning sons Peyton and Eli, with the latter also playing for the Rebels.
Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin, who is definitely not an old school coach or personality, has made significant progress with the Rebels in Oxford and he now has the endorsement of the Manning.
Manning attended the Manning Passing Academy with his two sons, where top quarterbacks from around the country gathered. When asked about his thoughts on the upcoming season for Ole Miss, Manning had high praise for Kiffin's program.
"I love reading everything about the anticipation of the season at Ole Miss," Manning told the Clarion Ledger. "Lane (Kiffin) is the king of the portal. I hope all those players get to know each other and come together. But people are picking them. I know it's a talented team. I know it's a tough league, but it's great anticipation. It's wonderful for Ole Miss for people to be excited about the season."

While some old-school football players may not support the NIL and transfer portal era, Manning is fully on board. The Rebels are ranked No. 5 in the new Athlon Sports preseason top 25 rankings, and sixth in several others including ESPN's rankings.
Heisman Trophy candidate Jaxson Dart returns and, and Kiffin secured the No. 1 transfer class with additions like Walter Nolen and Juice Wells.
Kiffin hopes to lead the Rebels into the College Football Playoff this season. Under his leadership, Ole Miss has gone 34-15, including an impressive 11-2 record this past season. With an expanded playoff format, the Rebels have a very real chance to make it into the postseason with another strong year.
