On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart took aim at Joe Biden and the White House’s response to mounting concerns surrounding Joe Biden’s mental fitness and ability to continue as the Democrat’s best hope to defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election. Stewart didn’t hold back, playing clips of Biden’s struggle with words and the subsequent spin from his supporters, calling it “blatant bullshit.”

“For a campaign based on honesty and decency, the spin about the debate appears to be blatant bullshit, and the redemption tour hasn’t gone that much better. We’re told that the threat of Trump is so great and the stakes are so high that even bringing up these absolutely legitimate concerns about the President’s ability to do the most vigorous job in the world for the next four years is enabling fascism. Yet even the president doesn’t seem particularly alarmed.”

Stewart also criticized the notion that supporters should back Biden simply because millions voted for him in the primary, highlighting that voter perceptions drastically changed post-debate.

“Authoritarianism and Donald Trump aren’t the only threats our democracy faces. An arthritic status quo, unable or unwilling to respond in any way to the concerns of voters who just received new and urgent information about their candidate also erodes confidence and faith in the system of government borders. Honestly, ‘get on board or shut the f**k up’ is not a particularly compelling pro-democracy bumper sticker.”

While Stewart didn’t call for Biden to drop out, he suggested a path forward involving an open convention in Chicago where challengers could compete for delegates.

At the same time, Biden pushed back against calls for him to drop out, penning a letter telling Congress to rally to his side and warning that any further dissent would only benefit Trump.

This segment marks Stewart’s first appearance on The Daily Show since his live show directly following Biden’s debate performance last month. With momentum building, it appears that calls for increased transparency and a reevaluation of Biden’s candidacy will continue to gain traction.
