Early morning, Friday, July 26, a 39-year-old man was approached by five suspects while pumping gas at a station near Mayfair and Capitol in Wauwatosa.

The suspects attempted to steal his vehicle, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

A Wauwatosa police officer, alerted by the sound of gunshots, spotted a white sedan speeding away from the scene and initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit ended in a minor collision at N. 110 Street and W. Congress Street, causing the suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.

The intended victim, who had managed to call 911, reported that he had been shot during the attempted robbery.

He explained that he had been confronted by multiple individuals, at least one of whom was armed.

In self-defense, he used his firearm, resulting in a shootout before the suspects escaped.

The victim was attended to by the Wauwatosa Fire Department and transported to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

The white sedan involved was confirmed to have been stolen from Milwaukee on July 24. One suspect, an 18-year-old man from Milwaukee, was taken into custody.
