Authorities were dispatched to process the scene, which included the firework mortar and brain matter scattered throughout parts of the alley.
Authorities are treating this as a death investigation.
Around 10 p.m., Earl Lory, 34, was in the 3000 block of North Kostner Avenue when he sustained fatal injuries while handling a firework, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Lory, a resident of the city’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene.
