In an incident that took place on Kostner & Barry in Chicago, Illinois, a 34-year-old individual was reportedly decapitated by a firework.

Authorities are treating this as a death investigation.

Around 10 p.m., Earl Lory, 34, was in the 3000 block of North Kostner Avenue when he sustained fatal injuries while handling a firework, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Lory, a resident of the city’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene was grim and chaotic, with remnants of the powerful firework, which caused the fatal injuries, lying amidst the scattered debris.
