Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas passed away at the age of 74. Her family announced her death in a statement via her X (Twitter) account late last night.

Just last month, Lee announced her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in a statement. "My doctors have confirmed my diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, I am currently undergoing treatment to battle this disease that impacts tens of thousands of Americans every year," she said.

Lee had won her primary in March and was expected to run against Republican candidate Lana Centonze for the upcoming election.

Lee had been a presence in Congress for three decades, fighting for her Democratic values.
