Rep. Jackson shared the terrifying experience with Fox News host Sean Hannity, stating, “My nephew was at the event tonight, in the friends and family pen. They heard the shots, and everybody dropped to the ground. He was grazed in the neck by a bullet, which cut his neck, causing him to bleed.”

The congressman’s nephew was situated just to the right of the president in the friends and family section. As the shots rang out, chaos ensued. “There were people just four or five rows behind them that were critically injured. My sister-in-law urged him to go to the first aid tent,” Jackson continued. “At the triage tent, another person was being treated for a critical head wound and was declared dead.”

Law enforcement confirmed the tragic death of a bystander and detailed the injuries suffered by others. An attending physician reported attempting to save a man with a severe head wound, noting the presence of brain matter in the bleachers. The Secret Service disclosed that the gunman had fired from a rooftop overlooking the venue.

“During Former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the evening of July 13 at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue. U.S. Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased,” the agency announced in a press release.

“U.S. Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and Former President Trump is safe. One spectator was killed, and two spectators were critically injured. This incident is currently under investigation. The Secret Service has notified the FBI.”

Former President Trump confirmed that a bullet struck his ear, expressing his condolences to the victims’ families on Truth Social. “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”

“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening,” Trump wrote.

In a spontaneous press conference in Rehoboth Beach, President Biden condemned the violence, stating, “The idea that there’s political violence or violence in America like this is just unheard of. It’s just not appropriate. Everybody, everybody must condemn it. Everybody. I’ll keep you informed. And if I am able to speak to Donald, I’ll let you know that as well.”

The FBI has identified the shooter, who was killed during the incident, as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
