The tension in the room escalated as family members of the victim, 22-year-old Daniel Howard, gave their impact statements. Shouting filled the air, prompting the judge to order deputies to restore order in the packed courthouse. Throughout the proceeding, emotions ran high, with the victim’s mother, Stephanie Howard, urging the judge to hand down the maximum sentence for what she described as a “mass shooting.”

Gun control laws in America should be... ?

At the session, a detective testified that Daniel Howard was killed in the parking lot of Sunset Patio Bar during the early hours of New Year’s Day in 2023. The senseless act also left another victim with a gunshot wound to the neck, while three others sustained non-life-threatening injuries. After a two-month manhunt, the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Warren in Pennsylvania. Warren’s family and friends showed their support as they sat near him during the two-hour sentencing.

The victim’s mother, Stephanie Howard, expressed her satisfaction with the justice served, declaring, “Daniel will never, we will never ever get to see or talk to him again. So, I’m happy for the justice we got today.” As Warren was sentenced to life in prison for Howard’s death, along with additional penalties for the injured victims, he conveyed very little remorse. When asked for comment, he mentioned having “a lot of remorse” but declined to elaborate further as he was escorted back to jail.

During the hearing, the victim’s older brother recounted how Daniel, a college football player with aspirations of making it to the NFL, had his dreams shattered by Warren’s actions. It’s essential to note that two other suspects were also apprehended in connection with the New Year’s Day shooting. The state dropped an accessory to murder charge against J’Coal Glover, while Destiny Adams was convicted on the same charge last year.
