Bodycams: 2 LAPD Officers Injured When Suspect Opens Fire With A Machine Gun [VIDEOS]

The Los Angeles Police Department released bodycam video of a suspect armed with a machine gun firing at two officers during a traffic stop in the Willowbrook area on July 3.

Officers Stefan Carutasu and Joshua Rodney attempted to pull over the suspect at Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue.

The suspect fired at police without warning when the officers were getting out of their patrol car.

During the pursuit that ensued, one officer returned fire as the suspect fled the scene. The officers lost sight of the suspect at 135th Street and Broadway.

Both officers sustained injuries from glass fragments caused by the suspect’s rounds striking the police vehicle windshield. One officer received two graze wounds to his head.

The officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment and released the following morning.

Rifle casings from the suspect’s weapon were recovered from the scene. No one else was injured in the incident.

The suspect, 31-year-old Malcolm Darnell Guss, Jr., was arrested for attempted murder on July 12.

Guss faces several charges, including attempted murder of a peace officer, assault with a machine gun upon a peace officer, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, possession of a machine gun, and possession of a firearm by a felon, as announced by L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón.

Guss pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held on $2,025,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 29. If convicted, Guss could face life in prison.
